The latest Project Zomboid patch, Build 42.14.0, lands a significant rework of the ammunition system as part of the ongoing Build 42 Unstable branch — and our team contributed to the multiplayer and server-side fixes that shipped alongside it.
The headline change is a comprehensive overhaul of how ammunition is categorised and balanced across the game's firearm roster. Calibres have been rationalised, weapon stats adjusted to reflect real-world characteristics more closely, and ammo stacking rules updated to prevent inventory bloat. Firearms that previously shared ammo types now have distinct requirements, adding meaningful choice to looting decisions.
On the multiplayer side, this patch addresses a batch of server-side inventory edge cases flagged by the community during the 42.13.0 testing period. Connection stability under high player counts has also been improved, building on the architecture work we delivered for the initial multiplayer release.
Additional fixes cover crafting queue issues, timed-action animation desync, and several client crash conditions reported on the unstable branch.
